Akbank T.A.Ş. is one of the largest banks in Turkey. Founded in 1948, As of 2017, it had revenues of nearly TL 13.7 billion. Listed on the Borsa Istanbul, its largest shareholders are members of the Sabancı family. Akbank was founded in Adana, Turkey in January 1948, originally to provide financing for the cotton producers in the Çukurova region. As the majority of the bank founders were born in the city of Kayseri, the name "Adana-Kayseri Bankası" was chosen, soon to be shortened to its initials AK or Akbank. The founders were Hacı Ömer Sabancı, the industrialist brothers Ahmet Sapmaz and Bekir Sapmaz and the four owners of the Adana textile business Milli Mensucat; Nuh Naci Yazgan, Nuri Has, Mustafa Özgür and Seyit Tekin.

Yapı Kredi is one of the first nationwide commercial banks in Turkey, and is the fourth largest publicly owned bank in Turkey by its asset size. It was established in 1944 by Kazım Taşkent. Assets of the bank include the credit cards, assets under management, non-cash loans, leasing, factoring, private pension funds and non-life insurance. The combined financial services network of the bank consists of 835 branches across the country with over 13 million customers. Yapı Kredi was acquired by Mehmet Emin Karamehmet's Çukurova Holding in 1984, and Hüsnü Özyeğin was its general manager until 1987. In 2003 Çukurova Holding reached an agreement with the Turkish bank regulator to sell the majority of its shares in Yapı Kredi within two years.

Garanti BBVA (legal name Türkiye Garanti Bankası A.Ş; formerly referred to as Garanti Bank in English) is a Turkish financial services company based in Turkey. 49.85% of Garanti's stakes are owned by the Spanish bank Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA). Garanti Bank is the second largest private bank in Turkey with US$104.1 billion consolidated assets as of March 31, 2013. Having shares publicly traded in Turkey, the UK and the US, Garanti has an actual free float of 50.76% as of March 31, 2013; Garanti shares are publicly traded in Turkey and depository receipts in the UK and the US.

QNB Finansbank is a Turkish bank with headquarters in Levent, Istanbul. It was established by leading Turkish banker Hüsnü Özyeğin in 1987 and for a period was the Turkish bank with the largest network of foreign branches. On March 18, 2014, Turkish daily Hürriyet reported the purchase by National Bank of Greece (NBG) of Soyak Kristal Kule (Soyak Crystal Tower), a 40-floor, 60,000 square-meter office tower in Levent, one of the main business districts in Istanbul.

DenizBank A.Ş. is a large private bank in Turkey. It is currently owned by Emirates NBD. It was owned and controlled by leading Russian bank Sberbank from 2012 to 2019. Operations commenced in a hotel room in August that year, and the bank moved into its new headquarters in Karaköy the following month. Its first 13 branches (5 outside Istanbul) were also opened. With a revitalization program initiated, branches were opened under a new corporate identity.

VakıfBank is the second largest bank in Turkey in terms of asset size, established with an initial capital of TL 50 million on January 11, 1954 and later started operating on April 13, 1954. Abdi Serdar Üstünsalih has been selected as the CEO of the Bank. In 1956, after conducting extensive studies and surveys in the major economic centers across Turkey, VakıfBank continued its growth by opening an additional 10 branches. In 1957, VakıfBank made its first venture towards broadening its services with the establishment of Güneş Insurance.

Ziraat Bank offers commercial loan supports to companies and tradesmen, as well as personal loans such as consumer loans, vehicle loans and housing loans. During the first half of the 19th century, with the adoption of western models of trade and finance, foreign banks began their activities in the Ottoman Empire. At that period, there was not enough capital to found a national banking system and no one could mention the existence of national banks as a source of capital.

It was the largest private bank in the country by the size of assets and equity, as well as by the number of branches and employees as of 30 June 2019. It was the first bank founded by the Turkish Republic. İş Bankası is a bank that provides consumer loans, vehicle loans, housing loans and commercial loans. Following the culmination of World War I in 1918 and the subsequent dissolution of the Ottoman Empire in 1922, Turkey was declared a republic and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was elected by parliament as the first president of Turkey. Atatürk was quick to realise that the government needed a national bank to rebuild Turkey's economy following the debacle of the war.

Halkbank is a Turkish bank, first incorporated in 1933 as a state-owned bank. After growing throughout much of the twentieth century, it began absorbing smaller-sized state banks around the turn of the millennium. Halkbank is now a publicly traded company, although the majority stakeholder remains the Turkish government. Halkbank was incorporated in 1933 and began offering services 1938. Between 1938 and 1950, it was a credit union whose purpose was to provide tradesmen and artisans loans on favourable terms in order to promote economic growth in Turkey. In 1950, it began opening branches and granting loans to customers.
