Janata Bank Ltd. (Bengali: জনতা ব্যাংক লিমিটেড) is a state-owned commercial bank of Bangladesh established in 1972. Its headquarters is situated at Motijheel in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. It is the second largest commercial bank in Bangladesh.Following the independence of Bangladesh from Pakistan at the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, Janata Bank Limited was formed combining the then United Bank Limited and Union Bank Limited under the Bank Nationalization Ordinance of 1972 (President's Order 26).

BASIC Bank Limited (Bangladesh Small Industries and Commerce Bank Limited) registered under the Companies Act 1913 on the 2nd of August, 1988, started its operations from the 21st of January,1989. It is governed by the Banking Companies Act 1991. The Bank was established as the policymakers of the country felt the urgency for a bank in the private sector for financing small-scale Industries (SSIs).

Agrani Bank Limited (ABL) (Bengali: অগ্রণী ব্যাংক) is a state-owned commercial bank of Bangladesh established in 1972. Its headquarters is situated at Motijheel in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. Agrani Bank Limited was established on 26 March 1972 by combining two abandoned Pakistani banks, Commerce Bank and Habib Bank. The bank is fully owned by the Government of Bangladesh.[4] Agrani Bank is governed by a board of directors consisting of 12 members headed by a chairman.

Sonali Bank Limited (Bengali: সোনালী ব্যাংক লিমিটেড) is the principal state-owned leading public commercial bank in Bangladesh.[6] It is the largest bank of the country.Sonali Bank was established in 1972 under the Bangladesh Banks (Nationalisation) Order, through the amalgamation and nationalisation of the branches of National Bank of Pakistan, Bank of Bahawalpur and Premier Bank branches located in East Pakistan until the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.[9] When it was established, Sonali Bank had a paid up capital of 30 million taka. In 2001, its authorised and paid up capital were Tk 10 billion and Tk 3.272 billion respectively. Presently, its authorised and paid up capital is Tk 10 billion and Tk 9 billion respectively[citation needed].

AB Bank (formerly Arab Bangladesh Bank) is a leading private sector bank in Bangladesh.AB Bank was established on 31 December 1981.This was the first joint venture private bank in Bangladesh. On 14 November 2007 Bangladesh bank approved the name change to AB Bank from Arab Bangladesh Bank. A former deputy managing director was charged with embezzling 3.25 billion taka from the bank. In February 2008, AB Bank was fined 100 million taka for violating securities law with excessive marginal loans. The majority of these loans from the merchant banking wing of AB Bank went to bank employees and their relatives.

Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited is a private sector commercial bank in Bangladesh.The bank can trace its origins to the former Bangladesh Commerce and Investment Limited, set up on 27 January 1986. It was a non-bank financial institution. In April 1992 its activities were suspended by Bangladesh Bank due to a liquidity crises.To protect the banking sector, the employees, and customers of the firm, it was changed into a bank by Bangladesh Bank. Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited was incorporated on 1 June 1998.

Bank Asia Limited is a private sector commercial bank in Bangladesh. Mr. Arfan Ali is the President and Managing Director of the bank.The Bank was established in 1999 and incorporated in 1999. it expanded through the purchase of the branches of Bank of Nova Scotia and Muslim Commercial Bank Limited.[1]Bank Asia Limited was established as a private commercial bank on 28 September 1999, Bank Asia Awarded: Bank Asia has been awarded Third Prize in Corporate Governance Disclosures and achieved Certificate of Merit Under Integrated Reporting Category in the 17th ICAB National Award for BPAR-2016.

Rupali Bank (Bengali: রূপালী ব্যাংক) is a state owned commercial bank in Bangladesh.Rupali Bank Limited was constituted with the merger of 3 erstwhile commercial banks i.e. Muslim Commercial Bank Limited, Australasia Bank Limited and Standard Bank Limited which operated in the then East Pakistan on March 26, 1972, under the Bangladesh Banks (Nationalization) Order 1972. Rupali Bank worked as a nationalized commercial bank till December 13, 1986. When the Bank went public but the majority of the shares are still retained by the Government. Rupali Bank Ltd. emerged as the largest Public Limited Banking Company of the country on December 14, 1986.

BRAC Bank is a private commercial bank in Bangladesh, operated by the BRAC development organisation, focused on Small and Medium Enterprises (SME). The bank has its head office in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It has 187 branches, 18 Premium Banking lounges, 457 SME Unit Offices, 481 agent banking outlets, 375 ATMs, and 96 CDMs.BRAC Bank was founded on 4 July 2001 to reach the large number of unbanked people which were not covered by traditional bank. The main concept of the bank was to facilitate Small and Medium Enterprises.

Citizens Bank PLC (Bengali: সিটিজেনস ব্যাংক পিএলসি) is one of the fifth generation banks, scheduled 61st Private Commercial Bank in Bangladesh. Bangladesh Bank (Central Bank of Bangladesh) accorded final approval to Citizens Bank PLC as a Commercial Scheduled Bank in the private sector on 15 December, 2020. Earlier, the bank had applied for an extension at several board meetings of Bangladesh Bank as it could not meet other required conditions including paid-up capital of BDT. 500 crore.
